Technology and Telecommunications
Since the early 1990s, FD Americas Public Affairs has been at the forefront of the debate over technology policy issues. Working with industry leaders over the past decade, we helped foster a legislative and regulatory environment in which technology companies would flourish. Our team emerged as a leader on intellectual property, piracy, content and innovation issues. Today, we are also recognized for our work on broadband, VoIP, spectrum management and other telecommunications issues at both the federal and state levels.
Case Study:
With congressional leaders reluctant to enact legislation to speed the digital TV transition due to fears of a backlash from consumers and local broadcasters, FD Americas Public Affairs devised and implemented a strategy to recruit support from local leaders in key congressional districts, reinforced with advocacy ads, earned media and third-party support. In just four months, we generated almost 500 personal communications from local leaders and national third parties to key Members of Congress, 80 percent of whom voted to support the DTV bill. After years of effort, Congress finally passed the bill — earlier feared as “political suicide” — with bipartisan support, paving the way to a new era of innovation in digital communications.
