At the height of a global H1N1 outbreak and under fierce opposition, the Animal Health Institute (AHI) enlisted FD to launch an education campaign targeting key thought leaders, influencers and policymakers to engage support of the use of medicines in animals. Utilizing messaging research, FD launched Healthy People. Healthy Animals. Healthy Planet. to underscore the importance of animal health on public health and wellness and highlight the role of the animal health community in preventing disease transmission from pets and food animals. While this two-year program is still underway, FD’s award-winning efforts, including media and stakeholder engagement, as well as development of a Web site www.healthyanimals.org, collateral materials, and media outreach have begun to have a critical impact across target audiences.
